VET in Schools Success Story

Chloe Dupont always had a passion for the fitness industry and, during her final years of school, she completed not one but three VET certificates: a Certificate III in Sport and Recreation, a Certificate III in Fitness and a Certificate IV in Fitness.

“My passion was sport and my school didn’t offer many subjects relating to the fitness industry. That’s why I decided to do my training through a VET in Schools provider,” said Chloe.

Since finishing school Chloe has gone on to pursue a career in the fitness industry while studying towards her double degree in Exercise Science and Human Movement and Sport and Recreation Management at Victoria University.

Chloe secured a job in the fitness industry working as a personal trainer and tennis coach, and also spends time working as the Assistant Manager of the St Kilda Police and Citizens Youth Club.

“The certificates I completed at school helped me to get into the fitness industry and are the reason I chose to continue studying toward my double degree.”

“They led directly to me becoming a personal trainer and tennis coach, which will help me achieve my long-term goal of doing strength and conditioning work with elite tennis players,” Chloe said.

Chloe’s advice to other students thinking of completing a VET in Schools course is to take advantage of what is on offer at your school.

“Take advantage of VET courses, they’re like a taste tester; they allow you to explore the industry and decide whether or not you want to make a career out of it.”

Chloe won an Australian Vocational Student Prize and a Prime Minister’s Award for Skills Excellence in School in 2009. Receiving these awards provided recognition of her hard work and commitment to her studies.for more information.
